About the diesel particulate filter (DPF) from Fischer Abgastechnik
The diesel particulate filter (DPF) from Fischer Abgastechnik is designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine for vessels that use marine heavy fuel oil or gas oil. Tests have shown that the diesel particulate filter in-house developed by Fischer is capable of removing more than 80% of particulate matter from diesel emissions.
Fischer Abgastechnik is able to deliver you as shipowner or shipyard the wall-flow diesel particulate filter that can usually remove 80% or more of the soot, the single-use diesel particulate filter (intended for disposal and replacement once full of accumulated ash) and the diesel particulate filter designed to burn off the accumulated particulate either passively through the use of a catalyst or by active means such as a fuel burner which heats the filter to soot combustion temperatures.
The process of removing the accumulated soot from the diesel particulate filter is called regeneration. In case of the diesel particulate filter in-house designed and developed by Fischer, this can be done either passively (from the engine's exhaust heat in normal operation or by adding a catalyst to the filter) or actively introducing very high heat into the exhaust system.
