EIA for ORC based waste heat recovery system

By: Jeroen Berger, May 16, 2018 (updated)

In case you make the decision to invest in a waste heat recovery system (efficiency PACK) from Orcan Energy AG, you can use the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA). The waste heat recovery system is based on the Organic Rankine Cycle’s principle and is standing on the 2018 Energy list. The budget for the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) is 147 million euros.

What does the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) mean?

By using the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) you can invest in a waste heat recovery system based on Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology under favorable fiscal conditions. On average the EIA can give you a 13.5% tax advantage. This depends on your legal form. For example, in case you have a general partnership or private limited liability company.

With the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) you can deduct 54.5% of the investment costs from the fiscal profits, on top of the usual depreciation.

Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)

The waste heat recovery system based on Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology works with a refrigerant (R245fa) which already "boils" at 15 degrees Celsius (°C) at atmospheric pressure. Via a simple screw expander the vapor will be directly converted to rotational energy. This screw expander operates at a much lower speed and has a flat efficiency curve over a wide operating range, in contrast to a steam turbine.

It produces electrical or mechanical energy (to support the powertrain) by using the waste heat from the exhaust gas, cooling water, residual steam or thermal oil. The installation is typically designed for dynamic and partial-load operation and is suitable for all maritime sectors.

Apply for the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA)

In case you make the decision to invest in a waste heat recovery system (efficiency PACK) from Orcan Energy AG and would like to take advantage of the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA), then you must apply the EIA within three months after the commission is given at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). At the official website from RVO  you can check the condition for eligibility  and read the application procedure .
